Mary J Blige 'We didn't know Amy Winehouse demons'
Mary J Blige has said that she is thankful to have received support in overcoming her demons.
Speaking on ITV1's Daybreak, the American singer discussed the death of Amy Winehouse, saying that no-one knew what the late 'Rehab' star had been dealing with.
Blige said: "We only know the surface of what we see, we don't know what's in her mind, we don't know how deep her demons or situation was. So everyone doesn't get this lucky to say, 'I choose life'.
"Sometimes it's too late… so thank God I got an opportunity to actually see myself drifting away and call on help."
Blige continued: "Everyone doesn't like to go to another human being because they're ashamed and they're guilty, but I feel like I've been embarrassed and ashamed all my life, why not ask someone for help?"
The 40-year-old explained that her new album My Life II, The Journey Continues (Act 1) will show fans "how far we've come and how much we've grown and how much understanding we have of life now".
Recalling how she had received aid after making a "dark, kind of like suicidal call for help", Blige said that she "did not hesitate" in accepting the opportunity to "turn my life around".
"And that's a responsibility, I don't want to have a bunch of people following me to my death, so it was time to turn around," she said. "I'm a very caring, thoughtful person and I always think about the lives of people.
"I'm not perfect and special, but it's just something in me that thinks about my fans and thinks about just people period."
