Thandie Newton hates being recognized

Thandie Newton “hates” it when people recognize her and can’t remember the films she’s starred in.
The 38-year-old actress uses public transport because passersby will not expect her to be on a bus, but she feels “less than nothing” when she is spotted by someone who struggles to recall her movies.
“On public transport people don’t expect to see me so it’s fine. And if they do come up, like this lovely guy in Pret A Manger yesterday, and say, ‘Oh, I really love that movie you did,’ you are two equals having a conversation,” she said.
“But when it’s, ‘You’re that one off… or, ‘Are you famous?’ I hate that. I become less than nothing.”
Thandie who has two daughters, Ripley, 11, and seven-year-old Nico gets away from her personal life by making movies because she feels tends to “feel watched all the time” whenever she walks down the street.
“When I am out and about I feel watched. It’s become second nature. The only time I get to be private is in my work,” she added.
“That is when I liberate the ego. The blessed-out sensation of liberating the ego.”
